Before getting sick and having days off, I'd try and fill my days off with social events or do my best to "make the most of that day". However, I'm now beginning to see that somedays the best thing I can do on my day off is take care of me. Whether it be reading a good book, spending time with The Lord, having a bubble bath, cooking away (yes slowly cooking relaxes me) or even having a nap, all these things refresh and recharge my body.
In order to work hard and with Joy I need adequate rest. For me that is spending time with Jesus, having a nap and maybe a bubble bath.
One thing I really believe God helped me see is how to rest with a joyful attitude. I used to grumble at the fact that my body needed rest and I could not do everything I wanted. But in that season, He began to show me the benefits of resting in Him. I would have joy, wisdom and strength from Him in the more trying and difficult situations.
So, here's to rest and the goodness I've experienced from it.
What does rest look like to you? Is it something you appreciate or something you know you need to do?

A day to remember
Let this be a reminder
A string wrapped around my finger if you will
That for five months I was out of commission
It was not a bad 5 months
Trying? Yes
Would I want to re-live it? Not sure about that one yet ;)
I experienced some truth, grace that I have never experienced.
I saw Jesus wash over my sin and bring me back to life
He tended to my every need
He answered my every cry
He showed me who I was in Him
I became free to live
Free to be the woman He created me to be
Free to sing, dance and share that joy with those around me
I got a glimpse of who Jesus created me to be
And to not be ashamed of that woman
She is a free woman
Created by a Holy God
Created with a purpose
Deeply loved by Her Maker
So whenever days get tough
When you run into those people that make things a little rough,
Just remember that time you longed to return to work
Remember that time you were almost dancing around the store
The joy that marked your face and voice
Never, ever forget that beautiful day

Work
So ever since getting my ipad mini, I have fallen in LOVE with the Kindle App! I love the luxury of being able to travel with a few books without all the extra weight! It was probably the best 350 I've spent in a while.
Another reason I love this App has to do with the fact that I always have about 5 books or more on the go and this is a good way to keep them bookmarked, refer back to them or highlight them.
Anyhow, I am currently reading Tim Keller's Every Good Endeavour and here are a few things I have learned:
-Work should fit our gifts and capacities
-Choose work that benefits others
-We want to benefit our field of work itself
-We can either make a name through everything God has done for us or what we can do for ourselves
I really enjoy Tim Keller's writing. I find it very insightful, convicting and thought provoking. So far, I have been challenged on what work means to me and what it means to glorify God in work. I don't have all the answers here, but I'm trusting God's spirit to lead me in the right direction.
So I'd love to know, what are you reading? Are you a business leader? What books have challenged you in your career?

When I'm not working I enjoy a good work-out, cooking, baking, reading, travelling, shopping {duh!}, hanging with family & friends and last but definitely not least, spending time with the one who Redeemed my life from the Pit; My Wonderful Saviour, Jesus Christ.
